University Awards

Awards at UTech, Jamaica

At the tertiary level, the Gregory Lloyd Prince Educational Foundation provides five (5) awards to students in two programmes at the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech, Ja.). The names of these programmes are:


  1. Urban and Regional Planning (URP)  
  2. Real Estate Management and Valuation (REMV)

 

The names of the awards are as follows:


  1. Best Academic Performance Award 
  2. Good Citizenship Award 

Best Academic Performance Award

The Best Academic Performance Award is open to students from the following undergraduate programs:

  1. B.Sc. Urban & Regional Planning, Year 1
  2. B. Sc. Urban & Regional Planning, Year 2
  3. B.Sc. Urban & Regional Planning, Year 3
  4. B.Sc. Real Estate Management and Valuation, Year 2.

Good Citizenship Award

Good Citizenship Award

The Good Citizenship Award is open to students in the following programmes:

  1. B.Sc. Urban & Regional Planning, Year 3, or
  2. B.Sc. Urban & Regional Planning, Year 4.

The most helpful and resourceful student who fervently supports events and initiatives of the URP Department is presented with the Good Citizenship Award annually. 

High School Scholarships and Competition

Scholarships for Three High Schools

At the secondary level of education, the Foundation has offered the "ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP" to students at Titchfield High School since November 2014. Other high schools which are eligible to receive this scholarship include St. Catherine High School, and Spanish Town High School.


One scholarship each is available to students of the aforementioned high schools who excelled at the Caribbean Secondary Examination Council (CSEC) level, and who will be entering grade 12 to pursue the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE). The following are the criteria, and conditions for the scholarship.

 

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP:

  1. This scholarship is for one student at each participating school; 
  2. The students should have sat the CSEC / CXC examination in fifth form at Titchfield High School, St. Catherine High, or Spanish Town High, and must be entering the sixth form / grade 12;
  3. The student must attain grades 'One' or 'Two' in eight (8) CSEC / CXC subjects, inclusive of two science subjects, English language, and mathematics; 
  4. Preference will be given to the student who is actively involved in school life—inclusive of sports and / or recognized school club / society; require assistance, and participating in a government's social safety net programme or programmes;
  5. Applications open on 15th August, and close 15th September; 
  6. The application's authorization code must be obtained from either the Guidance Counsellor's office or school's notice board.
  7. Late applications will not be accepted (APPLY AT THE TOP OF THE NEXT PAGE); 


The Academic Excellence Scholarship covers: 

  • Gregory Lloyd Prince Educational Foundation Plaque for Academic Excellence;
  • Payment for the CAPE examination entry fee, as well as two (2) CAPE subjects not covered by the Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth & Information;
  • Contribution to start or continue an investment account at a financial Institution.



READERS ARE LEADERS COMPETITION:

To support and promote initiatives aimed at literacy (improving reading, writing, and comprehension skills), starting in May 2025, the GLPEF will execute a competition (Readers are Leaders Competition) which is open to students of secondary level institutions in Jamaica / high schools.


The following are the criteria, and conditions of the competition: 

  1. This competition is open to students of all high schools in Jamaica;
  2. Students will procure four eBooks / books (Runkus Black: Starting Something, Runkus Black: Unfinished Business, Runkus Black: Turning Point, and Realized Dream: An Autobiography, Part One) to read, and respond to a total of twenty eight (28) questions (that is, seven questions from each of the four books);
  3. The first three students to correctly respond to all questions in Challenges #1, #2, #3, and #4 will obtain prizes as listed below;
  4. The competition opens on 1st May, and close 15th September.
  5. Applications which are submitted before May 1, and after September 15, will not be accepted (APPLY ON THE NEXT PAGE);

The Readers are Leaders Competition Prizes:


First Place: 

  • Gregory Lloyd Prince Educational Foundation "First Place Readers are Leaders Plaque" 
  • Back to school book voucher valued at J$15,000.00.
  • ***If the first place winner is a fifth form student moving on to the first year of sixth form, that student will instead receive a similar scholarship as the student who receives the Academic Excellence Scholarship above, which is:
  • Gregory Lloyd Prince Educational Foundation Readers are Leaders Plaque;
  • Payment for the CAPE examination entry fee, as well as two (2) CAPE subjects not covered by the Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth & Information;
  • Contribution to start or continue an investment account at a financial Institution.


Second Place: 

  • Gregory Lloyd Prince Educational Foundation "Second Place Readers are Leaders Plaque" 
  • Back to school book voucher valued at J$12,500.00.


Third Place: 

  • Gregory Lloyd Prince Educational Foundation "Third Place Readers are Leaders Plaque" 
  • Back to school book voucher valued at J$10,000.00.
